What happened

  • Australia on 9 July issued an advisory about the threat posed by the Chinese state-sponsored cyber group Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) 40.

  • This advisory included case studies of APT40’s techniques and assessed that it conducts malicious cyber operations for China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS). These operations are assessed to remain a threat to Australia’s and other countries’ networks.

  • This advisory was published by the Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) and was co-authored with a range of counterpart agencies from the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, South Korea, and Japan.
