What happened

  • Australian Minister for Trade and Tourism Don Farrell met his Chinese counterpart, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao, in Abu Dhabi on Monday, 26 February (local time).

  • The ministers discussed China’s review of its duties on Australian wine and Minister Farrell reportedly raised the suspended death sentence received by Australian writer Yang Hengjun.

  • Taking place on the sidelines of the thirteenth World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference, this was at least the sixth meeting between ministers Farrell and Wang since February 2023.
