What happened

  • On Thursday, 4 April, The Australian revealed that a bipartisan delegation of five Coalition and Labor parliamentarians will head to Taiwan on Sunday for a six-day visit.

  • This delegation is scheduled to meet outgoing President Tsai Ing-wen and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu, as well as other senior Taiwanese government figures and officials.

  • Also on Sunday, Australia will join the United States, Japan, and the Philippines for joint naval exercises in the South China Sea.
