What happened
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed that Premier Li Qiang will be in Australia from 15 to 18 June for the first Chinese leader-level visit in more than seven years.
Prime Minister Albanese described the visit as “an important opportunity to engage directly on key issues for both our nations,” and said that “Australia continues to pursue a stable and direct relationship with China.”
The Chinese press reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson as saying: “China is willing to take this visit as an opportunity to work with Australia to strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance understanding and mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, and jointly build a more mature, stable and fruitful China-Australia comprehensive strategic partnership.”
